Vet Visit!

May 25, 2012

When Cookie woke up this morning, she was coughing uncontrollably…

Cookie gets a checkup.

…and heaving, as if she had something she couldn’t get up, and lethargic, from all the action.  So, after dropping off the kids at school, off to see Dr. Glassman at Roosevelt Vet in nearby Brewster.  In the time between leaving the house and getting to the Doctor, she was coughing a lot less.  And after a check up, and X-rays…seems everything is just fine.  Possible explanations:  “Kennel-Cough” that she picked up from another dog in passing, or allergies, or just something caught in the back of her throat (!!!!) or, remote possibility of a reaction to the Bordatella vaccine she received earlier in the week – which is supposed to prevent Kennel-Cough.  All I have to say is, this phase of puppydom reminds me a lot of when I was a new parent with my first child, and I worried about “every little thing” – although this didn’t seem so little at the time.  And so, from this escapade we have learned that puppies cough a lot sometimes!  Now we are home and back on track with our day.  Wishing you all a wonderful Holiday weekend!  It’ll be Cookie’s first cook-out over here…mmmmmmm!  Warm & Fuzzy’s, Diana

They Hooooowwwlll along!

Cookie visits a Japanese Zen Garden

Recently, the Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden of North Salem, NY had a very lovely Blessing of the Animals on a Sunday afternoon.  Brian and Atticus took our Pup to this very special ceremony.  I had really hoped to include a video of Cookie & her fellow Canines howling along the the Bagpipes which played there – a hillarious moment – but due to the limitations of this blog site, the above picture shall have to suffice.  The Hammond Museum is a non-profit organization for the Humanities – and a very lovely, tranquil spot to visit.  Warm & Fuzzys, Diana

A Few Words From the Puppy-Mommy

May 22, 2012

Hello, I’m Diana, Cookie’s “Puppy-Mommy. ” Welcome to our Blog!

Anytime is a good time for a snuggle!

Just as Cookie is my first-ever-in-life dog, this is my debut as a blogger. Since Cookie joined our household there is definitely more love in the house…and much more mayhem! The kitchen has turned into a de-facto puppy playpen, my back yard has little holes in the ground everywhere and is covered in plastic toys, and our cat S’more is really not happy with us. My head is spinning as I cram in advice from our many dog training books and race to sessions of puppy kindergarten. There is now puppy laundry to do, constant battles with muddy paws, and I’m spending a fortune on bones each week. There have been many vet visits as puppies seem to need as many shots and boosters as a newborn baby. Walks and regular games of fetch must be scheduled in each day. On top of all that, my son is having “issues” with the new addition, who nips, rips clothes, and takes up a good deal of my attention. I’m definitely sleep deprived since these days we have to get Cookie up to “get busy” around midnight, and I know I’ve gained a few pounds in people-treats since this all began. So WHY am I doing all this? Well, I think the picture below says it all. I have also been so inspired by the over-the-top, ecstatic reactions of those who meet Cookie for the first time…especially the children. I am so fortunate to live in a great town full of wonderful dogs and their devoted owners, from whom I’m learning so much. Not to mention the insights I get from our amazing dog trainer. Already there are so many stories and possibilities and dog care tips to share, and as Cookie says, we’ve only just begun! So I hope you will join Cookie and I for our adventures during these precious puppy days and beyond. Just click on the “Follow” button below to get started.  Warm & Fuzzy Regards, Diana
